FreeHosting Rescue is a blog set up to provide guidance to website owners about to lose free hosting service. Sometimes website owners choose to leave free hosting sites in order to have access to features not available on free hosting accounts.

One free hosting option has been GeoCities. Yahoo! acquired GeoCities  in 1999 for $3.6 billion. Recently they announced that free hosting for GeoCities sites will end this summer. We will provide information that will help website owners S.O.S (Save Our Sites).

There is some good news. Much has changed since GeoCities launched. We’ll provide information about some of the capabilities now available that the free hosting service did not provide (FTP, WordPress blogs, for example).

At the time of the purchase GeoCities was the third most visited site on the Web with 19 million unique visitors in December of 1999. GeoCities provided a place to set up communities of people who shared similar interests and allowed customers to create their own home page on the Internet.

For some customers, saving their website might be very challenging. This site will focus on providing guidance to help customers move the sites that they have worked so hard to develop and maintain safely. We will talk about ways to minimize the interruptions for their loyal visitors.

FreeHosting Rescue is powered by Ecommerce, Inc., the parent company for several web hosting brands including IX Web Hosting and Host Excellence.
